Your first day at your new job often feels like back at your first day at school: Super exciting, but also very stressful and nerve-wracking. Did you bring all documents necessary for the paperwork? Are you dressed appropriately? Will your colleagues like you? What if something unexpected comes up or something goes wrong?
There are some awesome first day programs out there, which guide you through everything. Unfortunately, only a minority of companies actually implemented them. More often you will just be thrown into an orientation program to get a brief rundown of the company - if even that - and then moved to your department, where your manager or colleagues take over. And often they are not prepared to fluently integrate you. Especially in the beginning of your career, this kind of start creates insecurity and makes you look like a beginner. The problem is that it will take very long to change this first impression.
How about looking like someone who knows what he/she is doing from the start, and not being intimidated by all the new impressions?
